Learning is messy....but within the struggle, growth emerges!
This year will be my 13th year in public education. Before that, I worked in a private school. I have been blessed with opportunities to work in a variety roles: a teacher for 3-year pre-k, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th and 12th grade students; and as a school counselor working with students from Kindergarten through 12th grades.
When I am not working, I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with family. My husband and I live in Marietta and have one daughter. On Saturdays in the fall, you'll find me watching University of Alabama football--ROLL TIDE!! My daughter is an Alabama graduate and I received my Educational Specialist degree from there.
I love school--learning new things, having new experiences and feeling a sense of accomplishment. I used to think that learning was a straight line process--and that it was easy! That is because when I was in school, we did our work, turned it in, took a test, got a grade. I was learning; but I was not creating meaning for myself. I was reiterating what I was told. Some of it I remembered, some of it I did not.
What I now know is that real learning--where students create meaningful connections between content and concepts and as a result create their own knowledge--is not a simple straight line process. Learning often takes a twisting and turning path. I am excited to have the privilege of working with your child this year and am looking forward to many new learning adventures.......it may be messy, but we will work to make it fun!
